INÊS MATOS
MUSIC TEACHER AND ARTIST
About me
Hi, I'm Inês!
I’m a Portuguese music teacher and composer based in Dublin, with a deep love for creativity, expression, and helping people connect with music in a meaningful way.
I was born in 1996 in the city of Macao and moved to Portugal when I was four — where my musical journey truly began. At eight, I started studying piano and never stopped. Music soon became my way of understanding the world, expressing emotion, and finding calm.
I studied Music Composition at the Lisbon School of Education (2015–2019), where I explored subjects such as orchestration, composition techniques, contemporary and modern music, and music history, among others. During this period, I also organised and managed university concerts, coordinating everything from planning to logistics. While still in university, I began teaching — and quickly realised that education would be a lifelong path for me.
Wanting to go deeper, I completed a Specialized Course in Master’s in Music Education at the University of Aveiro (2020–2022), focusing on creative methodologies, learning psychology, inclusion, special needs education, early years music, music theory and ear training teaching, and sustainability in education. Alongside teaching, I’ve been active in choirs, concert organisation, and have attended many conferences on music education and choral conducting.
This year, I started a course in Music Wellness and expanded my practice by taking a meditation course and participating in mantra singing workshops. These experiences are enriching how I approach music in a holistic, nurturing way — not just as a subject, but as a tool for self-discovery, mindfulness, and emotional growth.
Over the past 9+ years, I’ve worked with students aged 1 to 50, teaching piano, music theory, singing, ear training, early years music, and choir. I offer lessons both online and in Dublin, and help students prepare for RIAM exams if they wish.
My teaching style is warm, calm, and student-centred. I care deeply about making each lesson feel like a safe space to grow — whether you're learning your first notes on the piano, exploring new pieces, or simply finding joy in playing.
